D-Drug Awareness

Schools and Libraries

May 4, 2016

From: Madeira City Schools

We would like to thank those who attended the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) sponsored drug awareness meeting that was held at Madeira High School in April.

As you may or may not be aware, drug abuse is a public health epidemic and Madeira is not immune.  Drug addiction can happen to anyone and to any family. Results from our own Pride Survey indicated that 7.4% of students in grades 9 through 12 have used Marijuana in the last year.  Furthermore, results from the Pride Survey indicated that 6.7% of students in grades 7 through 12 have misused prescription drugs in the past year (not prescribed to them).

We understand that talking to your children about drug use is not always easy, but is critical in fighting the war on drug abuse. In Madeira, efforts are currently underway to promote drug awareness and drug prevention as we are partnering with the PTO.

It is our hope that you would consider taking a few minutes to visit the Start Talking! website and video links below to learn how you can start the conversation with your children about the importance of living a drug-free life.
