Hines-Allen and McTiller Post "Double-Doubles" to lead the Tigers
Newark, DE - The University of Delaware opened up a nine-point halftime lead en route to a 52-43 win over the Towson University women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. Senior guard Tanisha McTiller and redshirt junior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen posted "double-doubles" to lead the Tigers.
McTiller, who finished with a game-high 12 rebounds, grabbed the first board of the game for the Tigers. It was the 600th rebound of her career. She is the fifth player in school history to record 1,000 career points and 600 career rebounds and the first guard to reach the mark.
The Tigers got off to a quick start in the game as a lay-up from Hines-Allen at 15:04 was good for an 8-4 advantage. Delaware (16-6, 8-3 CAA) responded with a 9-0 run to take a 13-8 lead with 13:19 to play in the half. The two teams continued to battle as Courtni Green hit one-of-two from the line at 9:48 which put the Blue Hens up 21-11. It was the largest lead of the first half for the home team. Towson responded by scoring the game's next eight points to cut the deficit to two, 21-19 with 6:18 remaining in the half. Junior guard Ciara Webb tallied five of the Tigers' eight during that stretch. Delaware closed the half on a 9-2 run and took a 30-21 lead at the break. Green had five of the nine for the Blue Hens during that run.
Delaware shot 38.2% from the field in the first half while the Tigers shot 28.1%. Towson held a slim 23-22 advantage in the rebounding battle. Green led all scorers with 11 points in the first half while Webb had eight for the Tigers.
Delaware opened the second half by scoring four of the half's first seven points and took a 34-24 lead. A 7-2 run pulled the Tigers to within five, 36-31 with 13:40 to play in the game. McTiller scored five of the Tigers' seven points during that stretch. The two teams continued to battle as a layup from Alecia Bell at 7:07 gave Delaware a 48-35 lead. Delaware and Towson traded baskets over the final seven minutes. Webb hit a lay-up at 1:28 which made the final score 52-43 in favor of the Blue Hens.
Towson shot 29% from the field in the second half and 28.6% for the game. Delaware shot 33.3% in the second stanza and 36.1% for the game. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 45-41.
McTiller added 11 points in addition to her game-high 12 boards for her fifth "double-double" of the year. She also grabbed four steals. Hines-Allen finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for her eighth "double-double" of the season. Webb was the third Tiger in double figures with 10 points.
Kelsey Buchanan led Delaware with 15 points and nine rebounds while Green had 14 points and four rebounds.
Towson is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 20 when it hosts William & Mary at 7 p.m. in SECU Arena.
