Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings collaborates with Western Michigan University Chorale for Stravinsky’s Mass

Bloomfield Hills, MI. – Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings collaborates with the Western Michigan University Chorale for a concert centered around Igor Stravinsky’s “Mass.” On April 2 at 3:30 p.m., a group of DCWS musicians and the university’s choir will come together at the Kirk in the Hills (1340 W Long Lake Rd.)

The concert will open with the prelude to Stravinsky’s “The Rake's Progress,” followed by Bach’s “Contrapunctus IV.” The concert includes the world premiere of Pamela Z’s “Differences,” a piece commissioned by DCWS as part of its collaborative commissioning project called Resonate.

The second half of the concert will include Western Michigan University’s choir for a performance of Caroline Shaw’s “Seven Joys.” The concert will conclude with a performance of Stravinsky’s “Mass.”

Preceding the concert, registered subscribers will be able to take part in a private tour of Kirk in the Hills, a gothic-style church sitting on over 40 acres on land. Following the concert, there will be a live Q&A with Kimberly Adams, Western Michigan University’s director of choral activities.

A second iteration of the concert will take place at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.

This concert is part of the organization’s Signature Series, one of DCWS’ three distinct concert series. Later in the month, on April 30, DCWS will present the Kris Johnson Quartet for an evening of big band music at the Carr Center’s newly opened performance studio.

The season will continue with two concerts at Hagopian World of Rugs as part of the organization’s Nightnotes series. The final performance of the DCWS season will be at the Seligman Performing Arts Center, where DCWS musicians will perform during the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival.

The April 2 concert is supported by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and the National Endowment for The Arts.
