Are you a high school student who wants to help lead our community? Consider attending the 2022 Youth Congress where you will connect with area civic leaders and other teens to think critically about today’s issues and propose solutions.

The Douglas County Youth Congress empowers teenagers from all walks of life to make a difference through collaborative problem solving and the sharing of ideas as they work side-by-side with area civic leaders and have their voices heard.

This is an opportunity for teens in 9th through 12th grade to help solve problems that affect teens by finding creative solutions to topics such as mental health, youth criminal justice, pressure to succeed, youth voice, finances and more.

During Youth Congress, students, legislators and community leaders work together in the spirit of creating positive change. Participants work in small groups of 10-15 students and three civic leaders, ranging from community leaders to local legislators to town council members, and at the end of the day, share their ideas and present them to the full group.

Register online for this year’s Youth Congress from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Douglas County School District’s Legacy Campus, formerly the Wildlife Experience. Lunch will be provided.

For more information, please visit our website, or contact Youth Services Program Manager, Marsha Alston at [email protected] or 303-814-5327.

Youth Congress is one of three cornerstones of the Douglas County Youth Initiative, which also offers the Douglas County Outstanding Youth Awards and the WrapAround program.
