Richmond, VA – Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement celebrating the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month:

“Today at the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, we reaffirm that Hispanic and Latino heritage is American heritage. We celebrate the invaluable contributions of the Hispanic and Latino communities that helped shape our Commonwealth and Country.

“Too often the Hispanic and Latino community is overlooked in their instrumental role in building our nation. Now accounting for over 62 million individuals, its members are a pillar in American society. Through their influence on our culture and arts, their service to our country, their contributions to innovation, and starting new businesses, Hispanic and Latino Americans have done so much to make the United States the great nation that it is today.

“Our Nation is a nation of immigrants; diversity is our strength. As we reflect on the unique challenges the Hispanic Latino community faces, the Democratic Party of Virginia commits itself to continue to advocate for Hispanic and Latino communities to ensure our families and communities succeed.”
