-- On February 16, the Madeira City School Board passed a resolution asking for more local control of decisions impacting our students. The resolution calls on the Ohio Legislature and Ohio Department of Education to seek input and grant local district control as they develop legislation and rules pursuant to the reauthorization of the Every Student Succeeds Act. -- Register for the March 19 MSF Auction "Marchtoberfest" at 2016 MSF Auction. You can also purchase raffle tickets and preview auction items whether you attend the auction or not, and starting March 1 begin bidding. -- We invite all students, staff, parents and community members to nominate a Madeira educator to represent our district at the Hamilton Country Education Foundation's "Celebrate Excellence" event this spring. All information including characteristics to be considered and the nomination form can be found at Celebrating Excellence. Copies of the form will also be available in each school office. Nominations are due by 4 pm Monday, March 21, 2016. Thank you for helping us celebrate the excellence that is Madeira Schools!
-- Don't forget the MES PTO's spring Changing Hands Sale on Saturday, March 5 from 9 AM -1 PM. Anything and everything for kids from newborn to teen can be sold, but clothing and accessories are limited to Spring and Summer only. Consignor registration is open online at www.changinghandssale.com. The fee to register is $10 and consigning is open to the general public. -- The MHS Art Club and RSW/US are sponsoring a shoe collection drive March 7 - 17. Indian Hill and Madeira School districts, along with 45 companies across Cincinnati, will be collecting gently worn shoes for Soles4Souls, an international not for profit global social enterprise committed to fighting poverty. Any type of shoes that are rubber banded or tied together can be dropped off in one of the collection boxes that will be placed at MES, MMS and MHS beginning March 7. The winning school will win $2,500 and will be announced at an end of drive's "We Got Sole" event at RSW/US' Headquarters on March 18th from 3-6 pm.
-- Save the Date! Madeira's Football, Baseball and Golf programs are teaming up to sponsor a Golf Outing Fundraiser on Saturday, June 4th at Sharon Woods Golf Course. Information regarding the outing can be found at Golf Outing.
VARSITY TOURNAMENT UPDATES:
-- Braden Kane, Chet Dobson, Peter Nelson, Emma Fortman, Alex Fortman and Jake Waters will compete in the OHSAA State Swim & Dive Championships this weekend. Prelims will begin at 5 PM Thursday, February 25 at Branin Natatorium with finals on Friday, February 26 at 5 PM. Branin is located at 1715 Harrison Ave NW, Canton, Ohio.
-- Boys Basketball will play Purcell Marian in the Sectional Finals on Friday, February 26 at Loveland HS at 7:00 pm. Girls Basketball will play West Liberty Salem in the District Finals on Saturday, February 27 at Springfield HS at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $6 and are available in the athletic office.

-- Sixth grader Maddie Luther qualified for the WCPO News Channel 9 Regional Spelling Bee at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy's Lindner Theatre on Saturday, March 12, 8:30 am noon. The competition will be streamed live on WCPO.com and will also air on WCPO-TV on Wednesday, March 30 from 7:30-8:00 pm.
-- Four students from Madeira Middle School participated in the District 14 Middle School Honor Choir. Courtney Culp, Jacob Cooper, Sophia Gugino and Macy Hyatt were selected among other students from the Cincinnati area to sing high school level repertoire with the award winning conductor Noel Weaver.
-- Seventh grader Ethan Lex qualified for the Ohio State Geography Bee on Friday, April 1 in Columbus.
-- THE MHS Latin Club traveled to Columbus to participate in the state Ohio Junior Classical League Convention. The Madeira chapter placed third out of 22 schools. Please see MHS Latin Club for a list of all the winners.
