Easthampton City Arts Announcing Our Next Poet Laureate and Poetry Month Events!

Arts and Entertainment

April 6, 2023

From: Easthampton City Arts+

We're thrilled to announce and welcome our incoming Easthampton Poet Laureate, Carolyn Cushing! And we are also thrilled to announce this year's lineup of Easthampton Poetry Month programming (see below)!

Carolyn A. Cushing is a lyric poet inspired by nature and currently focused on the places where life and death meet. Her poems have been published in local, regional, and national poetry journals. As an active member of the Connecticut River Valley’s poetry community, she attends and helps facilitate poetry readings, literary events, and gatherings for writers. Inspired by seeing the collaborations of Easthampton creatives since moving here in 2000, she seeks out ways to collaborate with fellow writers and artists as well as share poetry in more dynamic formats, resulting in projects such as the Poetry Oracle (2020) and Chapbook in the Street (2022).

Carolyn is a recipient of grants from the Easthampton Cultural Council and Massachusetts Cultural Council, and was a finalist for the Philbrick Poetry Award of the Providence Athenaeum (2012) and the Tarantula Poetry Contest of Pilgrimage Journal (2018). Find her online at soulpathsanctuary.com.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the dedicated members of this year's Poet Laureate selection committee: Easthampton Poets Laureate Alex Woolner & Jason Montomery, ECA Committee Member & Founder of Press On Maude Haak-Frendscho, and local poet Michael Medeiros.

And, we encourage you all to follow us on Instagram & Facebook for upcoming posts and more detailed information about the events and activities listed below.

Easthampton City Arts (ECA) is thrilled to collaborate with Danielle Tait Photography for this exciting and creative fundraising initiative that integrates art, local businesses, and community. As a city organization with a mission to create positive, innovative, and accessible arts programming and cultural events to generate and increase opportunities for artists and the local economy, ECA will apply 100% of the proceeds raised through this program to directly support working artists in our community, through upcoming programming.

*We've raised more than $1,000 so far and all of these funds were added to the ECA Artist Grants Initiative so that more artists can be supported through this program.

Thank you so much, Danielle, for reaching out to ECA and for offering this wonderful opportunity to work together to raise more funds for local artists!

Here's a list of locations throughout downtown Easthampton where you can purchase a pin! Many thanks to all of our retail partners for your participation!
