Easthampton Public Library News - November 2023

Schools and Libraries

November 2, 2023

From: Emily Williston Memorial Library

Dear Library Friends and Followers,

November is a busy month at the Library! Read on for all of the ways that you can have fun, advocate for Library services, and imagine a brand new Library for Easthampton.

Spread the news! So many of you wonderful Library supporters have asked how you can participate in the process of making this new Library, one that can welcome and support all users and continue to be a vital educational and cultural resource for our City. Now is the time for your voices to be heard. Easthampton Public Library is applying for a state Building Grant, and in order to make the case that we need these funds (and we do!), it's our job to look into the future and reflect on what Library services and spaces will best serve Easthampton in the next 30 years.

How can you help? The best way is to tell us what you need, and what you want!

1. FILL OUT OUR SURVEY!

2. ATTEND A PUBLIC FORUM!

Library public forums are a great chance to learn about the process and to brainstorm with your neighbors. Public forums will take place on November 2 at 6pm, and November 8 at 1:30pm, at the Library, upstairs by the computers. If you are unable to attend a forum due to timing or accessibility issues, please let us know, and we'll arrange an alternate opportunity for idea sharing.

If building planning isn't your thing, but you love supporting the Library, don't fret! We have so many more ways to help. You can volunteer with us and with Emily's Friends of the Library. You can spend a day exploring Western Mass Public Libraries on the WMLA Ultimate Library Road Trip (so much free swag and so many cool buildings--you can get the best ideas). You can come to the ever popular BOOK SALE, this year at EASTWORKS OPEN STUDIOS, Nov. 4th and 5th, 10am-5pm. You can throw some of your hard earned cash our way in support of our Autumn fund drive (those bathrooms won't beautify themselves--more on this shortly). You can reach out and thank your local elected officials for passing this passionate and action oriented Resolution Supporting the Mission and Vision of the Easthampton Public Library, and its sister resolution supporting Freedom to Read in our schools.

Most importantly, you can use your library regularly and joyfully. We'll see you at tech help, and at storytime! We love to see you clearing the new book shelf and rediscovering old favorites and forgotten gems. We'll see you when you come to copy, fax, and print, and we'll see you at some of our November programs.

On November 15, at 6pm, Kat Now will be back for another session of Embodied Mindfulness: Breath, Body, and Sound. Certified Life Coach Chris Rich will help you not only survive, but thrive this holiday season, with her Holiday Survival Guide on November 30 at 11am. Get cozy downstairs with our Family Game Afternoon, November 17 at 3:45pm. For you bakers and sweets eaters, I'm hearing whispers about a Solstice Cookie Swap...who's in?

For our full lineup of November activities, check out our Calendar. We'll see you soon at the Library!
