Ecotech Institute, the first and only college focused entirely on preparing the workforce for renewable energy jobs, is being recognized by the City of Aurora for its contribution to its economic vitality. Nominated by a member of the community, Ecotech Institute is one of a select few businesses that will be honored tonight at the Aurora Municipal Center.

The City of Aurora established a Business Recognition Awards Program in 2005 to acknowledge businesses in the community that have contributed to the city's economic vitality. The City of Aurora also chooses an Aurora business that demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste diversion, water conservation, and/or social responsibility.

The Business Advisory Board selected the following 2012 awardees:

  • Walmart  14000 East Exposition Avenue
  • FastSigns 1690 South Abilene Street #103
  • Havana Business Improvement District
  • Ecotech Institute
  • Aurora Chamber of Commerce

"We are very proud to be honored by the City and our friends and neighbors," said Michael Seifert, president of Ecotech Institute. "We are thrilled to be part of Aurora's community and strongly believe that this is a fantastic place to work, live, play and learn."

In the spirit of community, Ecotech will host a Friends and Family Open House for its students, families and the entire metro area on Sat., Dec. 8, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the campus, located at 1400 S. Abilene Street in Aurora. The general public is invited to come spread holiday cheer and give back to the community. Ecotech will be serving delicious snacks and kids will have the opportunity to decorate ornaments and cookies. Guests are invited (but not required) to bring a new, unwrapped toy. All toys collected during the event will be donated to Toys for Tots.
