Elissa’s Opponent Denies the 2020 Results

Government and Politics

September 29, 2022

Elissa’s opponent is once again making headlines, this time for refusing to acknowledge the results of the 2020 election.

In a piece published in the Detroit Free Press on Sep 27th, (you can read it here) he *again* rejected the results of the 2020 election, continuing a years-long effort to cast doubt on the integrity of the democratic process.

In the article, he argues the 2020 election’s integrity is “an unknowable thing” and declined to answer when asked if he would have certified the results of the 2020 election as a member of Congress.

To make matters worse, in a separate piece, published on Sep 27th, by WXYZ (you can read it here), he refused to comment when asked if he would accept the outcome of *this* election.

These two statements build on a long track record of election denial. The day that the election was called for President Biden, he questioned the results, saying that there was “reasonable doubt” in the outcome. He was also one of a handful of state legislators to meet President Trump in the White House to discuss options to disqualify Michigan’s slate of electors. Just two days before the riots on January 6th, he wrote a letter calling on Congress to delay counting the electoral votes and certifying the election.

Elissa is a firm believer in putting country over party. Unfortunately, her opponent has made it clear that he cannot be trusted to do the same. Given that Congress is responsible for certifying the presidential election in 2024, someone willing to put President Trump’s victory ahead of the results of our democratic elections has no business being elected.

If you want to help us hold on to Elissa’s seat, and ensure the voters of Michigan’s 7th district continue to have a representative that will protect the integrity of our elections, consider chipping in below before our September 30th end-of-quarter deadline. We’re grateful to have you on our team.
