Pia is a passionate researcher investigating new ideas about how to heal the mind from trauma, personally driven by her mother’s memories of the violence of 1970s Cambodia.  In a shifting dance between Pia’s past and present, Sam Chanse’s new play considers how we learn to change “who you were then” to “what you are now”

MISS MITCHELL is a new musical centered on two women: Maria Mitchell, pioneer American astronomer and educator, and her “binary star” — her sister Phebe. The concert-play weaves personal stories with the life and legacy of these women to probe questions of female autonomy, women in STEM, and the still-present conflict between career and family
