Recent Siena survey showed strong support for Governor Kathy Hochul’s positions on gun safety

NEW YORK – During a radio interview yesterday, Alison Esposito doubled down on the Zeldin campaign’s opposition to gun safety, stating “commonsense gun safety measures” are “not New Yorkers’ focus right now.”

This stance couldn’t be further from reality: a recent Siena poll showed “overwhelming support” from New Yorkers of all political backgrounds for the same commonsense gun safety measures Esposito casually dismissed.

“The Zeldin-Esposito ticket is too extreme to acknowledge that a majority of New Yorkers support commonsense gun safety laws,” said Hochul Campaign Spokeswoman Jen Goodman. “In a year marked by one tragic mass shooting after another, New Yorkers want to feel safe in their communities, and making it easier to carry a gun is on the opposite side of where voters stand.”

Zeldin has consistently highlighted his opposition to gun-free zones in New York and signaled his support for concealed carry in schools and on the subway.

Two weeks before the Buffalo tragedy, Zeldin said New York State should repeal red flag laws and that people should “have a right to stand [their] ground.” Throughout his career, Zeldin has opposed commonsense gun safety measures that would expand criminal background checks, close dangerous loopholes, and crack down on illegal guns in our communities.
