Milkweed plants are a critical part of the survival of many insects in Missouri. 

Jefferson City, Mo. – Milkweed, part of the family of Asclepiadaceae, exists naturally in Missouri as eleven different species. This plant is known for its part in the life cycles of monarch butterflies, but milkweed is also a vital plant to many other species.  

Explore the many insects that depend on the various species of milkweed in Missouri through an interactive program put on by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) at Runge Nature Center. This program is a part of the Amazing Native Garden series. The program runs from 6-7p.m. on Thursday, July 28. Registration is required, and this event is open to visitors ages 14 and older.
