Flint Rep reinvents the classic musical.

With a fresh new rewrite by book writer and lyricist Tom Jones, collaborating with director Michael Lluberes, the young lovers at the story's center are

re-imagined as two young men. The Fantasticks is a funny and beautiful allegory about falling in love and growing up. We couldn’t be more excited to share this new interpretation of the longest-running musical in history.

Clint Black surged to superstardom as part of the fabled Class of '89, reaching #1 with five consecutive singles from his triple-platinum debut, Killin' Time. He followed that with the triple-platinum Put Yourself in My Shoes, and then a string of platinum and gold albums throughout the '90s. Perhaps most impressively, Clint wrote or co-wrote every one of his more than three dozen chart hits as part of a catalog that produced 22 #1 singles and made him one of the most successful singer/songwriters of the modern era.

Clint has sold over 20 million records, earned more than a dozen gold and platinum awards in the U.S. and Canada including a GRAMMY, landed nearly two dozen major awards and nominations, and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Message from the executive office

Happy Friday and a beautiful welcome to June! It’s the opening weekend for Fantasticks and we’re so excited to share this production with you. The Flint Repertory Theatre’s producing artistic director, Michael Lluberes, worked directly with author Tom Jones on a re-imagined storyline with two young men at the center of the love story. Everything about the show will surprise and delight.

We also open our June series of chamber concerts on the lawn of MacArthur Recital Hall this evening. Generously envisioned by David and Patricia Dort in their lifetime, a wonderful gift legacy supports these concerts featuring the exceptional talent of the Flint Symphony Orchestra and Flint School of Performing Arts. Bring a blanket or chair and join us at 6:30 pm. You will have plenty of time to walk over to Elgood Theatre for the opening of Fantasticks at 8 pm.

Have a safe and restful weekend!
