Message from the Executive Office

Why is the Capitol Theatre the coolest place in town to watch the Lions WIN the NFC Championship this Sunday? Because it will be full of FANS! (Ha...ha...ha...) 

FIM is hosting its third televised football ‘viewing party’ event at the Capitol Theatre this weekend as Detroit takes on San Francisco. If you stopped by for either the Michigan national championship game or the Lions divisional playoff game just last weekend you know it’s an electric atmosphere. This like many of our community events are free, however donations to the KidsTix program are encouraged at registration. We hope you’ll join us Sunday, there’s nothing like sharing your Lions Pride with friends and neighbors in front of the Capitol screen (with a bar and concession stand nearby!) So let’s get together to Defend the Den all the way to the Super Bowl! 

Hopefully, that will be your second trip to the Capitol Theatre this weekend, after stopping in tonight to relive the wacky Coen brothers’ flick O Brother, Where Art Thou? Maybe grab a burger at Soggy Bottom Bar before hitching a handcar with the Soggy Bottom Boys on their colorful quest to freedom. I’m not a Dapper Dan man or a Man of Constant Sorrow, but I am looking forward to catching this one on the big screen again! 

And don’t forget that next Friday is our annual Seeing Stars! Benefit for FIM Flint School of Performing Arts tuition assistance. Excited though we may be about our star-studded season at the Capitol Theatre and Whiting Auditorium, we know that all of those artists began their journeys well before they reached our stages. They started in classrooms and studios like those at FSPA, and we think there are few things more important than encouraging that talent by removing as many barriers as possible to develop it. As loyal friends of FIM, we’d love to see you next Friday as we celebrate and bolster the next generation of performers in Flint and beyond.
