Join us for the FIM's seventh annual Independence Day celebration, which promises to be a delightful experience for the whole family. This year's lineup features DJ Brian Larkin, who will set the stage with a fantastic mix of music. The Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by talented Student Orchestra members from Conservatoire de Limonest, France, will deliver a captivating performance of summer classics and patriotic favorites. Adding to the excitement, there will be a special guest vocalist.

The Kids Zone will be a haven of entertainment for the little ones, offering an FSPA - Instrument Playground, face painting, games, coloring, bubbles, and, of course, everyone's favorite treat, ice cream. It's an evening of fun and music designed to appeal to all ages.

As the night sky darkens, get ready for a spectacular fireworks display presented by FIM, the CS Mott Foundation, and the Flint Downtown Development Authority.

Don't miss out on this exciting event! Come and celebrate on Sunday, July 2, with us, as we come together as a community to enjoy a wonderful evening of entertainment, good company, and patriotic spirit.

Community Partners: CS Mott Foundation, City of Flint, Flint Downtown Development Authority, The What’s Up Downtown Project, Flint Water Festival (RichKids Inc.), Genesee County Arts Education and Cultural Enrichment Millage, and business and community leaders.

Host Families Needed
FSPA has TWO very exciting opportunities this year to host out-of-town musicians. We need people interested in hosting these talented musicians while they stay in Flint to participate in various workshops and performances.

What does it mean to be a host?
All homes and family structures are eligible to be hosts!
Visitors are housed in pairs and stay 5-8 days. You do not need to speak German or French to host – all visitors are fluent in English.
Hosts provide many of the meals for their guests, including packed lunches.
Hosts provide transportation for their guests as one of their primary hosting duties. The guests will have unique and rigorous rehearsal and performance schedules.
Host families support their guests through this exciting but stressful time.
Host families provide cultural experiences for their guests.

Message from the Executive Office

There is no shortage of options for entertainment at FIM tonight, and we sincerely hope we’ll catch you at one of them! Bring a lawn chair or blanket to the Lawn of MacArthur Recital Hall to enjoy another evening of the Chamber Music Series which will feature a woodwind ensemble led by FSPA wind department chair, Michelle LaNoue. Or head over to the Capitol Theatre to enjoy Robin Williams’s epic portrayal of Peter Pan who decided to grow up after all, in the 1991 kid’s flick, Hook

And if you missed its SOLD OUT opening weekend, be sure to make a trip to the Flint Repertory Theatre this weekend to discover the magic of Ragtime, which continues through Sunday, June 25.

Please mark your calendars for July 2! Come celebrate Independence Day with FIM, in downtown Flint on the roof of the Rutherford Parking Ramp, where we’ll feature a DJ, kids’ games, fireworks, and the music of the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra, joined by exchange students from France.

We are so excited to share this all-American experience with our international visitors, but we are still in need of some families to host our guests! Please take another look at the host-family portion of this newsletter and consider taking advantage of this rewarding opportunity. Thanks in advance for your contribution!

See you soon.

Sincerely,

Rodney Lontine
