Spectacular Party
Fundraiser to Benefit KidsTix
TOMORROW - October 1
Whiting Auditorium
KidsTix is a new program launched in conjunction with FIM’s September Spectacular and the celebration of a new and expanded FIM. A gift to the KidsTix program opens up the door to the power of live performing arts for everyone.
American director and writer, Julie Taymor, known for her stage adaptation of The Lion King, says, “there is incredible power in the arts to inspire and influence.”
That’s a big part of FIM’s mission, to bring the performing arts to life in its exceptional venues, through its inspirational programs and across its community. Education programs and performances offer unique, valuable experiences for youth to engage with the arts and grow.
A donation to KidsTix will help cover the cost of tickets for economically challenged kids in the Flint area and their families. FIM supporters have already helped raise more than $5,000 for the program
“Art should be accessible for everyone, regardless of income,” says FIM President & CEO Rodney Lontine. “We are incredibly thankful to our KidsTix donors. Our audiences know the importance of arts education and one of the best ways to educate and inspire anyone is to take them to a performance.”
Transform a kid’s life by making a gift to support KidsTix.
Anastasia
October 6 7:30 pm
Whiting Auditorium
Did you know
This Broadway Musical is inspired by the 1997 animated film of the same name.
While the names are identical, the Broadway adaptation has its own unique twist on the story of the lost princess.
Anastasia's dress, from draping to completion, took over 120 hours and four people to create.
The dress itself weighs 3.5 pounds and has four layers of fabric, including a train.
Fans are a major prop used in the performance because of their historical significance at this time. During grand palace balls, female guests used fan movements to convey clear messages to their male counterparts.
Take a look at some translations below:
-The fan is opened and the lady waves a suitor away – “I am married.”
-The fan is closed – “I am not interested.”
-One petal of the fan is opened – “I’d like to get to know you.”
-The fan is completely open – “You are my idol!”

FSPA Concerto Competition
October 10 6:30 pm
Dort Music Center, MacArthur Recital Hall
The FSPA Concerto Competition is a biannual event that recognizes outstanding young musicians who receive private instruction at FSPA. Eight talented performers, from 9th - 12th grade, will compete for the chance to perform as a featured soloist with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra or Flint Wind Ensemble. Students will perform rigorous classical pieces for a panel of adjudicators representing the top music programs in the state.
Message from the Executive Office
The Flint Repertory Theatre’s production of Death of a Salesman has opened to rave reviews which is no surprise to those familiar with their work. The show runs through October 9 and as you can tell from the reviews posted above, it’s a must-see for so many reasons.
And we hope you’ll join us for the BCO benefit concert Saturday evening at Whiting to support the BCO Scholarship Fund. We’ve been waiting with great anticipation to hear Patti Austin’s tribute to Ella Fitzgerald with the Flint Symphony Orchestra – and it’s finally here. There are still tickets available for the Spectacular Party which immediately follows the concert. Whiting Auditorium will be hopping — and we hope you’ll be there to celebrate.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Sincerely,
Rodney Lontine
President and CEO
