Synopsis: With scant allegiance to the work of Shakespeare, this play takes many liberties with Bard's text. In doing so, it achieves a comedy style of its own. Peter Quince, the carpenter, is out of work and in his idleness, persuades his friends, "the rude mechanicals," to compete for a prize the duke is offering for a play to be performed in honor of his wedding. The rude mechanicals snatch at the chance to recoup their failing fortunes. Manipulated by Puck, a playful sprite, Quince writes a play about Pyramus and Thisbe and recruits the rude mechanicals to perform in it.

Message from the Executive Office

The Michigan summer heat has settled in this week in Flint, and at FIM, we believe nothing says summer like the sun on your face, a blanket in the grass, and the sounds of strings wafting through the air. If you'd like to test our theory, stop by the first concert of the FSPA/FSO Chamber Music Series tonight on the lawn of MacArthur Recital Hall featuring a Flint Symphony Orchestra string quartet. The series will continue every Friday night through June, but you can keep your blankets handy in July and August for FIM Music Around Town programming at the Flint Institute of Arts Friday Night Patio series.

The arrival of summer weather also means the approaching end of another school year and the opportunity for students of all ages to participate in a variety of music, dance, and theatre camps at the Flint School of Performing Arts. Camps are filling up fast, so stop by the FSPA or go online to register soon!

If chamber music isn't to your taste, stop by the Capitol Theatre tonight to hear the native Michigan band The Accidentals, who will also be jamming on stringed instruments - to a very different beat! Violinist Savanna Buist and cellist Katie Larsen met in a Traverse City high school orchestra and have been friends and bandmates ever since. Huge proponents of music education and encouraging students to break free of traditional tropes and experiment with sound, the indie-fold duo never fails to surprise and delight audiences with their instrumental talents and songwriting prowess. We're so excited they're back in Michigan (...and again and again), and we hope you'll stop in to see why.

Have a great weekend, and we'll see you soon!
