Florida Orchestra Concerts To Air On Classical WSMR

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Starting this week, listeners can tune in to live recordings of select TFO Masterworks concerts for free on Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9 FM radio and online at WSMR.org. Eight concerts from the 2022-23 season will air at 8 pm Tuesdays starting tomorrow (Oct. 3) with Music Director Michael Francis conducting Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring Joyce Yang, and more.

The broadcasts also will be available for free on-demand at WSMR.org for one month after the air date.

The broadcasts are part of TFO’s ongoing partnership with WUSF and Classical WSMR radio, Tampa Bay’s only classical music radio station. The broadcasts are made possible in part by support from Jay’s Fabric Center. Here is the schedule of the Tuesday evening broadcasts, all conducted by Maestro Francis at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. Schedule subject to change.

Oct. 3: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 featuring Joyce Yang, with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5 and Swan of Tuonela.

Oct. 10: Mendelssohn’s Elijah featuring The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay and Donnie Ray Albert.

Oct. 17: Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, with Ippolito’s Violin Concerto featuring Jeffrey Multer, and Grace Williams’ Elegy.

Oct. 24: Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 and Elgar’s Cello Concerto featuring Maximilian Hornung.

Oct. 31: Orff’s Carmina Burana featuring The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, with Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe, Suites 1 & 2, and Elgar’s Nimrod.

Nov. 7: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 featuring Joyce Yang, with Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4.

Nov. 14: Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring with Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Michael Abels’ Delights and Dances.

Nov. 21: Wagner’s The Ring Without Words, with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 featuring Dejan Lazic.

Next up live with The Florida Orchestra is Take Flight on Wednesday (Oct. 4) and Thursday (Oct. 5) in our Morning Matinees series presented by The Helen Torres Foundation at Ruth Eckerd Hall and the Mahaffey Theater. The Raymond James Pops series opens this weekend with Cirque Dances with Troupe Vertigo on Saturday (Oct. 7) and Sunday (Oct. 8) with a Sunday matinee at the Mahaffey Theater.
