Music from the Sol Solis Consort
June 1, 2023 from 7-8pm

This wildly talented group of musicians managed by Artistic Director Eric Chen, provides a unique take on orchestral music. You’ll likely recognize some of their tunes, but they won’t necessarily be ones that you’ve heard in fine concert halls! Perfect for all ages!

Pre-registration is recommended.  In lieu of per person registration fees, donations are encouraged to support the Friends for the hosting of this and other cultural programs.

Celebrate CT Open House Day
June 10, 2023 from 11am - 4pm

Enjoy Light refreshments as you explore our “new” research library with Friend’s Archivist, Leith Johnson, who will be on hand to answer questions. At 1:00 pm Leith will use the Grant Family Papers from the archives and the example of Dr. Primus Manumit as a case study of some of the puzzles and challenges researchers of local history face.

Nowashe Village

All are welcome to bring in their arrowheads, stones, pottery, baskets, jewelry, etc. for free identification with special guests. Try your hand at spear throwing with atlatl specialist Gary Nolf who also will be doing live flint knapping. Don't miss Nowashe’s newest curated show, South Windsor Unearthed: Rarely Seen Indigenous Artifacts.

Free with a suggested donation: $5 per child, $10 for adults, $25 per family.

Gardner Museum Bus Trip
Friday, June 23, 2023 from 9am - 6pm
Tickets are $90 per person
The Gardner Museum has a limit of 45 guests for private tours,
so register early to save your spot!

Join us on a museum exploration trip to Boston!  We’ve offered programming about Isabella Stewart Gardner and Frederick Law Olmsted over the past year, and now is your chance to explore their legacies in Boston.  

Ticket includes luxury bus coach transportation, bus driver tip, water and snacks (including Isabella’s legendary champagne and donuts!), admission and private guided tour of the Gardner Museum. Young adults aged 12-17 are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian.

Researching Local History and Primary Sources with Beverly Titus

Sunday, June 25, 2023
2-3pm. 

Join Beverly Titus, as she discusses her experiences using primary source materials in researching local East Windsor history.  Beverly is a volunteer at the East Windsor Historical Society who, for the past few years, has been working on a research project about the history of the Hartford County Temporary Home, specifically the thirty-three children who were residents and are buried in the Springdale Cemetery.

"South Windsor Unearthed: Rarely Seen Indigenous Artifacts”

June 10th thru September 7th
Mondays and Thursdays 9 am-4 pm
South Windsor’s archaeological record provides a window into the town’s rich Indigenous past. The town has been the site of not only intensive digs but of local of numerous surface finds. Among the items on display will be a rarely seen steatite pot; a variety of clay pot sherds with and without food residue; charred maize, butternut, sunflower seeds, and Blue-Stem Grass.  Phytolith/food analysis also to be featured and  will include microscopic images of phytoliths, explanation of foods eaten and possible domestication of Chenopodium.  

Highlighting the importance of the CT River, a fishing plummet, recreated fishing net and stakes to use as a fishing weir also will be displayed. Don't miss this new exhibit on display in Wood and outside in Nowashe Village. More details at www.Nowashe.org.
