Alma Thomas Painting Inspires KCRW Frieze Los Angeles Playlist

This past weekend, the iconic Los Angeles radio station KCRW selected Alma Thomas, Deep Red Roses Chant as their inspiration for their 2024 Soundtrack to compliment Frieze LA!

KCRW Program Director Anne Litt collected over forty tracks by Odetta, Slowdive, Little Simz, and more in honor of Thomas’ painting, which was prominently featured in our booth.

“No piece of art took me in more today that Alma Thomas’s Deep Red Roses Chant (1972),” stated Litt. “Born in 1891, Thomas was in her late 70s when she painted this work. I discovered her today and have since been down a rabbit hole looking at more of her work. This playlist was inspired not just by her, but by the passion, pain, enthusiasm, fear, serenity, textures and music. When I’m lucky enough to attend an art fair like Frieze (or an artist’s studio, gallery or show) I hear the artwork as much as I see it. This is but a brief and incomplete representation of that magic.”
