From: City Of Gaithersburg

Gaithersburg, Md. (September 13, 2022) The 2023-2024 (FY24) theater season marks the 21st anniversary of the opening of the Arts Barn, the City of Gaithersburg's home for the performing and visual arts. In celebration, the Arts Barn is seeking strong proposals of musicals, plays, youth theatre, and theatre for young audiences to take place July, 2023 through June, 2024. Located in the Kentlands, the Arts Barn houses a 99-seat theatre in a charmingly renovated Victorian-era stable. Productions generally run two or three weeks, preceded by a week of tech time in the theater.

Productions accepted for the Theater Series will be part of the Theater Arts Partnership Program (TAPP), a partnership between the production company and the Arts Barn/City of Gaithersburg. The City provides use of the Arts Barn and its many resources (fully equipped theater, rehearsal space, box office, advertising and marketing support). The production company is responsible for the direct production costs of the show (royalties, set and construction, props, costumes, etc.). The box office proceeds are divided between the production company and the City. This unique program provides TAPP partners with affordable, quality production space while helping the City fulfill its commitment to offering a robust cultural arts environment for its residents.

This selection process is conducted annually and selections are based on the strength of the proposal and the credentials of the theater group as determined by a Peer Review Committee. No group, regardless of past TAPP participation, is assured inclusion in the Theater Series.

Applications must be submitted via an online form by 11:30 p.m. on December 16, 2022. A detailed Call for Proposals with consideration factors and a selection timeline can be found here and on the Theater webpage at www.gaithersburgmd.gov.
