Gaithersburg, MD - Gaithersburg Police Officer Amy Ovalle was among the 39 public safety officials honored by the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce as part of its 29th annual Public Safety Awards program that took place on July 14 at the Montgomery County Agricultural Center. This annual awards program recognizes law enforcement and fire-rescue workers who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve and protect the local community.

Officer Amy Ovalle was presented with the Meritorious Service Citation in recognition of her exceptional service and outstanding commitment to the community. During the 2022 - 2023 school year, Officer Ovalle handled more than 170 calls for service in and around school properties and involving Montgomery County Public Schools students. It was noted that Officer Ovalle’s positive attitude and engaging personality makes her approachable and trusted by those she serves. Her impeccable reputation with colleagues, school staff, and the students and families she serves, speaks to her professionalism and dedication.

“Officer Ovalle has excelled in her position, and she is a valuable asset to the Department, Montgomery County Public Schools, and the community at large,” said Gaithersburg Police Sergeant Lester Rice. “The way she engages students and parents, builds relationships with administrators, and supports colleagues demonstrates her dedication and commitment. She performs her duties effectively and diligently, and has a positive, can-do attitude that never wavers. In September, she was named officer of the month for these qualities, setting an example for others. Amy is a vital part of our team, and I'm proud of her accomplishments.”
