Glendale Mayor Invites Community to Save the Date to Save A Life

Clubs and Organizations

January 5, 2024

Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers is calling on the community to save the date of January 10th, to save a life.

Mayor Weiers is referring to his 6th Annual Mayor’s Blood Drive scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church of Glendale, 7102 N. 58th Drive.

Mayor Weiers and the City of Glendale’s Employee Wellness Committee are working with long-time partner, Vitalant, a nonprofit blood services provider, because there is always a need for red blood cells and plasma units. More blood donors are needed to end the current blood shortage from the holiday season. Donors of all blood types can help and are encouraged to bring a friend who is new to giving blood. Anyone who is at least 16 years old and weighs 110 pounds can donate.

"Because this is our 6th Annual Blood Drive, we have learned lot over the years to make this life-saving opportunity as convenient and rewarding as possible," said Mayor Weiers. "Not only am I calling on the community to save the date to save a life, but to increase their understanding of the need for donating blood. Once they do, I know they will join us on January 10th.”

The all-day event will allow ample time for individuals with varied schedules to donate.

As a thank you, all donors will receive a voucher for a free one-day admission to the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and a voucher for a free pint of Culver's frozen custard.
