Free Comic Book Day at Velma Teague!
Get ready for our ultimate all-ages comic book event! Drawn to Comics, your go-to source for comic books, gaming, and collectibles, is giving away comics at the Velma Teague Library on Saturday, May 6, from 10 AM-2 PM to celebrate Free Comic Book Day. Be sure to arrive early for the best selection, since comics will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Enjoy select vendors, cosplay, crafts and games. Feel free to wear your own costume! Activities will take place at both the Velma Teague Library and the Drawn to Comics store located across the street (5801 W. Glendale Avenue). Martha H. Nasch and Her Poems from the Asylum
In 1927, Martha Nasch's doctor claimed she had a "case of nerves,” and with a signature from her adulterous husband, Martha was committed against her will to an asylum. Her poems, written behind bars, include shocking eyewitness accounts of patient mistreatment and a long-suffering adoration for her only child. Authors Janelle Molony and Jodi Nasch Decker have researched Martha’s harrowing and insightful poetry and will discuss its place in Depression-era history on Sunday, May 7, from 2-4 PM at the Foothills Library.

Main Library Coffeehouse: Red Rock Crossing Band
Known for their "off-the-hook" harmonies and unique
song arrangements, Red Rock Crossing is made up of Gary Tinstman on the stand-up bass, Rochelle Tinstman on
the mandolin and Terri Sue Rossi on rhythm guitar. This trio will perform in a variety of musical styles, including
bluegrass, folk, gospel and rock, on Monday, May 15, from 6:30-7:30 PM at the Main Library.

This performance is funded by a City of Glendale Performing Arts Grant.

Learn from archaeologist Allen Dart about the intriguing archaeological evidence that reveals their expertise and its relationship with ancient Native American rituals. Don't miss this AZ Speaks presentation, co-sponsored by AZ Humanities, on Monday, May 15, from 6:30-8 PM at the Foothills Library.
