Glendale 100: Glendale Public Library
Centennial Celebration Kickoff

Celebrate our library's 100 years as a part of the City of Glendale with a series of special programming focusing on the history of libraries in the United States, as well as our Arizona heritage. From September 2022 –
May 2023, we’ll feature children’s programs, adult lectures, artistry workshops for all ages, a reading program for children and teens, and more.

Come kick things off on Saturday, September 10, from 12-4:30 PM at the Main Library with an afternoon of fun for the entire family! Festivities begin at 1 PM. Enjoy tall tales, cowboy poetry, and music from 
Singing Cowboy Gary Sprague and his horse Dusty (1:30-2:15 PM); bluegrass from Cisco and the Racecars (2:30-3:15 PM); and dancing from Ballet Folklorico Esperanza (3:30-4:30 PM). The Bookmans Phoenix 
Musical Instrument Petting Zoo in the Storytime Room, a library scavenger hunt, and Library Card Sign-up Month promotions will be available throughout the event.

Glendale 100 programs are supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Chipotle Fundraiser for the Friends of GPL

Do good with Chipotle! The Friends of the Glendale Public Library are organizing a Chipotle Fundraiser. 33% of event sales get donated to the Friends to help the library.

When: Monday, September 12, from 4-8 PM
Where: Chipotle, 5880 W. Thunderbird Road, Suite 1, Glendale, AZ, 85306

You can order online for pickup using code E9D2Q6N or show the English flyer or the Spanish flyer at the restaurant.

For online orders to count towards the fundraiser, they must be placed for pickup only from the restaurant location of, and during the hours of, the fundraiser. Delivery orders and gift cards do not qualify. $150 minimum event sales are required to receive any donation.

Irrigating with Gray Water

Gray water can be a reliable source of water for desert landscapes. On Saturday, September 10, from 10-11:30 AM at the Main Library, Clint Culberson and Michael Gettens with Galaxy Gardens will share how they plan and install simple gray water systems. Discover how to send gray water from laundry machines, handwashing sinks, baths, and showers to your landscape. For more information, call Omone' Abu at 623-930-3535 or email [email protected].

Sourcing and Pricing Merchandise for Online Selling
Are you thinking about selling items online? Are you wondering where to find items to sell? Are you not sure how much to sell your items for once you have them?

On Monday, September 12, from 6-7:30 PM at the Main Library, get tips and tricks on finding items, learning what you can sell them for without losing money, and figuring out what someone might be willing to pay.

Rx Matters

Medications are helping people live longer and can improve quality of life, but they need to be used safely. On Wednesday, September 14, from 11 AM-12 PM at the Heroes Regional Park Library, learn the risks associated with medication, the questions you should ask your physician and pharmacist, and guidelines for proper storage and disposal. Presented by Ariana DiGregorio, Prevention Specialist at Area Agency on Aging.

Teen Bookmark Design Contest!

Drop by Velma Teague Library’s Teen Zone and express yourself by creating an artistic bookmark design. Bookmark design entry forms will be available throughout the month of September during regular library operating hours. All completed entries should be submitted at the library’s public service desk by Friday, September 30. Library staff will select their favorite design entry on Monday, October 3 and the winning teen participant will receive a skateboard and a prize pack! All teen participants are welcome to pick up their submitted bookmark design entry after Tuesday, October 4. This contest is open to ages 12-18. Glendale 100: Pac-Man Game in a Box

Since its development in 1980, Pac-Man has become one of the most popular games in the world. On Sunday, September 4, from 1-2 PM at the Heroes Regional Park Library, you can create your own Pac-Man tabletop to play solo or with your friends and family. Just make the game characters, construct the maze, and decorate the box. All materials will be provided. Ages 10-18.

Teen Gaming/Zombie Filming Night!

During this month's gaming night, come help us film a Tiktok/Instagram promo for next month's Zombie LARP! On Monday, September 12, from 6-7:30 PM at the Main Library, come in costume as a zombie, punk rocker, pirate, or all three! If you'd rather game, that works, too — we'll have all the regular games available for teens, ages 12-18.

Arizona Puppet Theater: Little Red Hen

Sing along with the Little Red Hen and Yellow Button on Saturday, September 10, from 10:30-11 AM at the Foothills Library! Enjoy this cute, classic story about the hen who worked hard to make a delicious loaf of bread. Recommended for ages 2 and up. 

This program is provided by the Deer Valley Family Resource Center.

Glendale 100: Hubble Telescope Model

Celebrate the 90s on Thursday, September 8, from 4-5 PM at the Heroes Regional Park Library. Create a model of the groundbreaking Hubble telescope, launched in 1990, and learn about the lights and tools it used to take astonishing photos. Ages 5-11.
