Love & eNews from GLIDE - February 2023

In this edition of Love & eNews, we share the announcement that our beloved Co-Founder and Minister of Liberation of Glide Memorial Church Rev. Cecil Williams has stepped down from his duties at the GLIDE Foundation. GLIDE announces the launch of the Dream Keeper Initiative, a program designed to invest in and uplift young, African-American residents of San Francisco, who have experienced intergenerational violence due to systemic racism. We celebrate Black History Month by looking to the future and continuing our work towards liberation, justice and equity. We turn the spotlight on one of our own, featuring an interview with FYCC’s Tiffany Haynes, and share with you a roundtable on the state of hunger and food insecurity in the region. Read on!

Celebrating Black History and Black Futures

GLIDE observes Black History Month through the lens of Black Futures, affirming our conviction that we will continue to support Black people and work towards liberation and justice, addressing the health, economic, and education disparities that continue to do harm. Minister of Celebration Marvin K. White waxes eloquently on GLIDE’s day-to-day work as we chart a course for reparations in San Francisco and keep engaging and envisioning a world free from systemic racism. Please read more here.

 Employee Spotlight

The staff of GLIDE’s Family, Youth, and Childcare Center (FYCC) work tirelessly to help families in the Tenderloin by providing essential childcare, education, and development services. This month we spotlight Preschool teacher Tiffany Haynes and share the profound impact GLIDE has had upon her life. Tiffany is a San Francisco Tenderloin native and through the ups and downs still comes out shining with a sense of purpose and optimism about her life and her connection to GLIDE. Please watch Tiffany's video.

GLIDE Launches Racial Equity Programs With Grant from Dream Keeper Initiative

The Dream Keeper Initiative (DKI) is a community-driven initiative with the goal of reinvesting into San Francisco’s Black communities across a number of different activities, events and programs. As part of GLIDE’s participation with the DKI, we will be awarding Transition-Age Youth (TAY) mini-grants of up to $500 per person for 150 Black youth ages 18-24 who live in San Francisco.
