Dear Friends,

In this edition of Love & eNews, GLIDE is getting into the celebratory spirit as we prepare for the annual Holiday Jam: Powered by Hope on November 17, benefitting GLIDE's life-changing programs. Get your tickets! This is a Jam you won't want to miss, with musical performances from Grammy Hall of Fame group the Family Stone, powerhouse vocalist Jenn Jones, and HipHop artist Kev Choice. This month, GLIDE observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month by sharing a special video that highlights the Men in Progress program, a batterer-intervention course breaking intergenerational systems of oppression and violence rooted in male privilege. Finally, as we move into the colder months, GLIDE reflects on the successes of the Community Care series, a summer pilot program moving GLIDE Forward in an innovative, farmers' market style resource hub. The Community Care event served as a prototype that will soon expand across the City to address increasing need in San Francisco's most marginalized communities. Please, read on!

GLIDE Community Care Event
Scores Another Win!

This past September, GLIDE concluded a summer series pilot program, called Community Care, a prototype of GLIDE’s Integrated Mobile Service Initiative that will connect neighborhoods with direct access to essential services through sustainable and scalable pop-up resource hubs. The strategic initiative comes at a time when homelessness numbers have reached alarming levels – The City’s Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing estimates that as many as 20,000 individuals may experience homelessness in San Francisco over the course of a full year. Recognizing the growing need, GLIDE’s new generation of mobile services will extend its reach and impact across the city to under-resourced communities.  Read about the Community Care event.

GLIDE Observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Violence against women rose to record numbers around the world during COVID-19 lockdowns, diagnosed a ‘shadow pandemic’ by the United Nations. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, GLIDE is highlighting its Men In Progress program, which provides batterer’s intervention services to offenders who self-identify as male, working to undo generations of learned, destructive and oppressive behavior rooted in male privilege and a male dominated society. "It's hard to break the cycle of intergenerational violence and until someone in that family breaks that cycle it will just continue," says Saundra Haggerty, program manager for Violence Intervention and Men in Progress. "Our program is grounded in accountability.”  Read more and watch the short video.
