In this edition of Love & eNews, GLIDE celebrates the 93rd birthday of our beloved and iconic Co-Founder Reverend Cecil Williams. It's hard to believe GLIDE is already in full holiday planning mode! Please save the date for the Nov. 17, 2022 GLIDE Annual Holiday Jam, which will feature musical headliner and Grammy Award winner, The Family Stone, for what promises to be an unforgettable concert experience. "The evening will have all the hallmarks of a GLIDE Holiday Jam – full of incredible soulful music, hope, and unconditional love – while also highlighting the life-saving and systems-changing services GLIDE provides for the community," said President and CEO Karen Hanrahan. This edition also spotlights an innovative GLIDE housing readiness workshop piloted through the Walk-in Center. And we highlight Harm Reduction's new Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, which helps individuals struggling with opioid addiction or substance use with telehealth services. Additionally, the Center for Social Justice marks Latinx Heritage Month with a virtual justice event examining gentrification in the Mission. Please read on to learn more about the latest at GLIDE.

WIC's Rental Assistance Program

Twice a month, on Monday mornings, the staff of GLIDE's Walk-in Center (WIC) set up a housing readiness workshop inside GLIDE's Freedom Hall. Curious folk drop-in to learn from GLIDE staff about the intricacies of renting and rental assistance in the City of San Francisco. The bi-weekly workshop is a pilot of GLIDE's larger rental assistance program, and it began in March 2022 to provide direct rental assistance to those who have been hit hardest by rising costs of living in San Francisco, coupled with the ongoing pandemic. "We designed the pilot program to be 'low barrier' so anyone who might not be able to secure assistance from other organization could come to GLIDE," said Walk-in Center Manager Eunice Feathers. Read on to learn more about GLIDE's effort to make sure no San Franciscan is left behind.

It was also a day to challenge the damaging stigmas associated with drug use and to elevate compassionate, effective approaches to overdose prevention. In a recent Q&A article, GLIDE featured Maxwell Kitz and Ali Lazarus from our Harm Reduction team, to talk about GLIDE's new Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) program: What is MAT and how does it weave together dignity, agency, and overdose prevention?  Read the full article.
