Clubs and Organizations

January 29, 2023

From: Glide

In this edition of Love & eNews, GLIDE is celebrating a historic policy win for racial justice that will curtail racially biased traffic stops in San Francisco. We're also looking forward to a special concert this Sunday, in collaboration with the Tenderloin Museum. Please, read on!

GLIDE Celebrates Historic Racial Justice Win with Coalition Partners

Police violence is not a new phenomenon in Black communities and studies, too, consistently present a bleak picture of policing: Black people make up 26% of all traffic stops in San Francisco but just 5% of the population. For the past 18 months, working as a member of the Coalition to End Biased Stops, the GLIDE Foundation has been at the forefront of advocating that the San Francisco Police Commission curtail racially biased, low-level traffic stops, also known as pretext stops. This advocacy work came to fruition on January 11, when the San Francisco Police Commission voted on a policy which will limit the use of racially biased "pretext" stops and consent searches by the San Francisco Police Department. The new set of rules constitutes the most comprehensive policy in the country to address racially biased policing.  Read the story.

Tenderloin Museum and GLIDE Partner to Host "Sounds of the Tenderloin" Concert

The Tenderloin Museum is honored to present its “Sounds of the Tenderloin” free live music series on January 29 from 2 pm to 5 pm in the Glide Memorial Church, a nexus for the history, community, and action that exemplify the Tenderloin neighborhood’s potential for empowerment and transformation. Sounds of the Tenderloin will feature an encore performance of the original song cycle, Tenderloin Voices, alongside sets by harpist Destiny Muhammad and vocalist Tiffany Austin.  Read more and RSVP to attend the free concert.
