GOLD COAST PR COUNCIL Announces This Year's BERNAYS AWARDS Nominations

(Boca Raton, Fla. – June 13, 2022) Melissa Perlman, president of the Gold Coast PR Council (GCPRC), South Florida’s largest independent association of public relations, communications and marketing professionals, today announced this year’s Bernays Award nominees. GCPRC have given out these awards since 2005 honoring excellence in local public relations campaigns, marketing programs, and media coverage.

 

The honors will be presented at GCPRC’s 17th annual Bernays Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, July 21, at the Delray Beach Golf Club, 2200 Highland Avenue (33445). Tickets are $35 each and can be purchased at:

T.A. Walker, the Taste & See Reporter at WPTV News 5 will emcee the luncheon. Honors will be presented in 10 competitive categories along with four special awards selected by the nonprofit organization’s board of directors,

 

Only one award winner is announced in advance, GCPRC’s prestigious Presidents Award, which is given to a person or organization for truly outstanding performance. This year’s recipient is Rick Christie, Executive Editor of The Palm Beach Post, for keeping the daily newspaper running and relevant, breaking one major news story after another, during a time when the viability of print journalism is under constant attack, both politically and financially.

 

Previous winners of GCPRC’s Presidents Award include Jorge Pesquera, President and CEO of Discover The Palm Beaches for promoting and protecting the tourism industry during the COVID pandemic (2021); Sandy Collier of Hey Sandy! PR & Communications for publicizing the plight of evacuees from The Islands of The Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian (2020); South Florida Sun-Sentinel for its brilliant and sensitive coverage of the Parkland school shooting and aftermath (2019); Buzz Agency co-founders Elizabeth Kelley Grace and Julie Mullen (2017); cultural reporters Rod Hagwood, Jan Sjostrom, and Leslie Streeter (2016); Boca Magazine publishers John & Margaret Mary Shuff (2015); and Florida Weekly and The Coastal Star (2014).

In addition to the President’s Award, three other Board selected awards will be given away: PR Star, which goes to a person or organization that made an extraordinary difference last year; the Founders Award, which goes to a person or organization that has made a lasting contribution to GCPRC; and a new award that will be revealed at the luncheon.
