From: Haunted Atchison Trolley Tour

For more than a decade, paranormal enthusiasts, brave travelers and those who like otherworldly diversions have been flocking to Atchison, intent on exploring its rich haunted history. The stories have been told since Atchison was a bustling transportation hub and launching point for westward migration in the late 1800s, and later a pioneering railroad town. That’s when many of our stately homes were built. The bizarre occurrences in these majestic dwellings continue to happen today and paranormal investigators still hold Atchison as a hotspot of ghostly happenings.

Haunted Atchison Seasonal Events:
Since 1995, families from across the nations have come to experience Haunted Atchison. The Haunted Atchison season, September through Early-November is a popular destination for casual spook chasers and committed paranormal investigators alike.

Haunted Trolley Tours:
The best way to see Atchison and learn about its rich haunted history is aboard the Atchison Trolley! The Haunted Trolley Tour will board at the Santa Fe Depot at 200 S. 10th Street, and return to the Santa Fe Depot at the end of your tour.See upcoming tour times

Hauntings at the Sallie House:
Though the house had long been known to be haunted, Sallie’s haunting grew ominous in 1993, when the house was rented to a young couple. Their dog seemed to growl at nothing, especially near the upstairs nursery.   Things began to take a violent turn, however. Fires broke out in the house and a series of sinister attacks on the husband began. The operating area would become cold. Objects would visibly move when the young man drew near. He could feel scratches upon his chest or abdomen. But never did the ghost attack the wife or baby.

Events that have been witnessed by visitors to the Sallie House include:
Video and investigative equipment that stop working
Batteries that are full immediately and completely draining
Experience moving objects
Unexplained scratches or bruising on their bodies during/after visits
Physical touches
Mysterious coldness
Trained guide dogs refuse to enter the nursery

1889 McInteer Villa:
The McInteer Villa is one of the most unusual and picturesque houses built in Atchison. Overnight stays can be booked for the Villa as well as day tours.

Haunted occurrences at the Villa include:
Lights turning on and off in the tower, which does not have electricity
Figures seen in windows when no one is at home
A speaker thrown off the counter and boxes moving
The rocking chair that “Goldie” died in has been known to rock back and forth on it’s own
Sounds of slamming doors throughout the night
Footsteps walking down the hallway on the second floor throughout the night
Some feel uneasy on the second floor, feeling as though they are being “watched”
Items tend to be moved from one location to another
Creaks of turning doorknobs
Lights turning on and off
Dramatic changes in temperature
Voices of both male and female
The door to one of the sitting rooms upstairs opens on it’s own and a “shadow” person has been seen a few times
The scent of a powdery woman’s perfume and the hint of cigarettes
