From: Town Of Oakland

9/29/22 2 p.m. Update

A flood warning remains in effect until 8:30 p.m. Emergency Management reported heavy rain in area due to Tropical Storm Ian. Flooding is already occurring. Between 8 and 18 inches of rain have fallen during this event. Orange County experienced heavy rains which produced widespread flooding in multiple areas. Tropical Storm Ian continues to move north as it makes its way out of Central Florida. Orange County can continue to expect sustained winds of 30-40 mph and gusts up to 50 mph throughout the day. The tropical storm winds are expected to leave the county by 1 a.m. Friday.

Town Hall will remain closed on Friday, Sept. 30. The Post Office is closed today, Thursday, Sept. 29 but the mail area is open.

The town’s water and sewer systems operated without issue. All town-owned retention ponds operated as expected. There is one tree uprooted and one power line down. There are branches and significant leaf debris in the streets. A crew will begin cleanup of major roadways Friday morning. Overall, Oakland fared well through Hurricane Ian and we are grateful to the community for their patience and perseverance through the storm.

Please remain indoors today and stay off the roads as tropical storm conditions persist. When it is safe to do so, follow the Town's instructions for proper debris separation and disposal. Please report any electrical hazards, such as downed power lines, to Duke Energy.

Take precautions to keep yourself and your family safe.

-Don't go outside until the storm has passed
-Stay away from downed power lines
-Never walk or drive through flooded waters
