James Quint Named City’s New Director of Old Cowtown Museum

The City of Wichita today announced James Quint as the new Director of Old Cowtown Museum. Quint has more than 17 years of museum experience, including most recently serving as the Executive Director for the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, New York.

The Director of Cowtown is responsible for planning, budgeting, directing and marketing the development and operation of Cowtown. ?The Museum is an accredited living history museum dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Wichita, Kansas, from 1865-1880 through immersive and educational experiences. The Museum has a collection of over 25,000 historical artifacts, 45 buildings that span 23 acres, and has approximately 57,000 visitors per year. The Museum is owned and operated by the City of Wichita under the Division of Arts and Cultural Services and is supported in part by Historic Wichita Cowtown, a 501c3 advocacy board, along with hundreds of volunteers.

Before joining the Curtiss Museum, Quint served as the Director of Education at Historic Columbia in Columbia, South Carolina where he oversaw all visitor experiences and interactions, coordinating over 100 annual public programs and overseeing daily and tour group operations.

“James brings an abundance of experience in the museum industry, has a clear passion for history, and is dedicated to educational, diverse, and inclusive programming,” said Lindsay Benacka, Director of Arts and Cultural Services. “We look forward to him taking the helm and steering Old Cowtown Museum, a beloved attraction that is rooted in deep community history, into the future.”

Quint holds a master’s degree in Museum Studies from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis and a bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation from Southeast Missouri State University.

Quint will start on Monday, March 4.
