Kean Appointed Chair of House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-NJ) issued the following statement after being appointed to serve as Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe for the 118th Congress:

“I am honored to have been selected to serve as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe. The challenges in Europe require a high level of cooperation amongst our longstanding allies and partners. We will prioritize continuing to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom against Russia, as we work with our NATO allies to ensure the security of the transatlantic community. America and our European allies and partners can achieve great economic and diplomatic successes when we work together.”

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul added the following:

“I am pleased to welcome Congressman Kean as Chair of the Subcommittee on Europe. I look forward to working with him on committee priorities including supporting Ukraine achieve victory in Russia's unprovoked war of aggression, ensuring accountability for Russian war crimes and other atrocities, maintaining a strong and united NATO, and working with allies and partners to address CCP and Russian malign influence across Europe and the Arctic."

Rep. Kean received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, and his Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.  He served 19 years in the New Jersey State Senate, 14 years as Senate Republican Leader.

The Subcommittee on Europe has regional jurisdiction over Europe, and includes working on issues related to security, trade, finances, infrastructure, and energy.
