Kevin Yarris Retires And Ryan Pistochini Named As The New Director Of General Services Department

Sepetmber 8 marks Kevin Yarris’ final day as the Yolo County Director of General Services Department (GSD), retiring following 30 years of superlative service to Yolo County. Ryan Pistochini has been appointed the new Director of the General Services Department, effective September 7.

“My colleagues and I want to commend and thank Kevin Yarris for his many years of dedicated service, helping improve the lives of residents and staff,” said Board Chair, Supervisor Angel Barajas. “The County of Yolo wishes him a long, most rewarding, healthy, and happy retirement.”

Mr. Yarris has served as the Director of GSD for the last 17 years. Initially, he became the Chief Information Officer in 2005, and his leadership expanded to include County Facilities, Parks, Purchasing, and Veterans Services in 2012, and finally, the Yolo County Airport in 2020.

Mr. Yarris’ passion led him to complete several prominent projects during his tenure at Yolo County, including a partnership with the private sector to bring broadband to Knights Landing, also improving broadband redundancy countywide, overseeing the extensive renovation of the Historic Courthouse, improving the Knights Landing boat ramp, developing of a trail and off-leash dog park at County Grasslands Park, and construction of the Yolo Library and Leinberger Jail. He also improved the environmental condition of the County with a space study. The study facilitated a new energy services agreement to replace HVAC, water, and lighting fixtures countywide, with cost and energy savings.

“I plan to continue living in Davis with my wife and childhood friend, Karyn, and my daughter Cammi, who is a recent graduate of UC Davis,” said Mr. Yarris. “I feel honored to have served the people of Yolo County for 30 years, over half my life.”   

Ryan Pistochini will assume the position as the new Director of GSD. He began his career with Yolo County at the Probation Department in 2013. He has held several leadership positions throughout his career at Yolo County, most recently as the County’s Manager of Procurement. As the Manager of Procurement, he provided oversight to more than 850 contracts in the County, with a combined value of over $600 million dollars. 

Mr. Pistochini has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and History from the University of California, Davis, and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration from the California State University, Sacramento. He also holds certifications from the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council and the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing.

Ryan is a lifelong Northern California resident and has lived in Yolo County for the past 22 years in West Sacramento and Davis. Before joining Yolo County in 2013, Ryan worked for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District and Solano County. He enjoys being a father of two children and traveling as much as possible with his wife.
