Please join us Saturday January 6, 2:00 – 4:00 pm for a  book reading and discussion of “UNCEASING MILITANT: THE LIFE OF MARY CHURCH TERRELL” by Alison M. Parker at the African American Museum and Library, 658 4th Street in Oakland. Terrell (1863-1954) was one of the most prominent African American activists of her time. She fought to integrate AAUW, and was one of the first African American women to graduate from Oberlin College and receive a Master’s degree. She was a civil rights, women’s rights, voting rights activist, and used “dignified agitation” to wage a struggle against lynching and racism. See more.

Adults 55 and older in Alameda County can share their perspective via a survey to help inform the services and programs offered to seniors across Berkeley and the county.

The survey asks about your needs for transportation, housing, healthcare, community, and more. Your responses help the City and County prioritize programs that meet the greatest needs of older adults in our community. Please complete it by the deadline - December 31st.  See more!

If you live in Berkeley and bought a cut tree, know that we only compost the tree itself. Avoid trees that have been “flocked”—covered with chemicals mimicking snow—as they cannot be composted.

When it’s time to dispose of a compostable tree, you’ll have to remove all lights, decorations, tinsel, plastic bags, and plastic tree stands. You’ll have to cut the tree to fit inside your green compost cart with the lid closed. See more!
