From: Town Of Apple Valley

Apple Valley, CA –- Dust off those running shoes, unfurl your team banner, and dig that baseball bat out of the garage. As a result of the state’s recent announcement, the Town of Apple Valley will open its sports fields just in time for spring.

California’s loosening of restrictions was announced last week after the state’s infection rate fell below 14 cases per 100,000 residents.  San Bernardino County’s latest statistics fell to 12.8 cases per 100,000, making Apple Valley eligible to resume moderate and high contact outdoor sports including baseball, softball, and running events, to name a few.

“To say that we are eager to get back to the business of having fun is an understatement. We have missed offering our residents these activities while we waited for the danger of COVID-19 to recede,” said Park and Recreation Manager Dave Coleman. “Although not all sports are allowed just yet, we hope to get approval to open more very soon.”

This is great timing for Apple Valley Little League participants who will begin practicing this month for games to begin in April.

Younger children who aren’t quite ready for Little League can gain some basic skills in the Town’s Adventures in Pee Wee Sports program. Registration is open now for multiple sessions that begin on March 30.

Adults who would like to get back to the ball field are encouraged to sign up for one of the Town’s Friday or Sunday Softball programs at Brewster Park or James Woody Community Center.

The Town will host a “St. Paddy’s Day Run in the Park” on March 17 from 3 to 6 p.m., preceded by a run on Saturday, March 13 from 7 a.m. to noon; both at Civic Center Park.

The California Department of Public Health has outlined safety precautions that must be followed while participating including wearing face coverings, social distancing and limiting observers.
