Donovan Campbell is a decorated military officer and a young Fortune 500 executive whose lessons about leadership and teamwork came the hard way, through three combat deployments two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. The Buckingham senior living community recently had the honor of welcoming Campbell, who resides in the Memorial neighborhood of Houston, for an engaging presentation about his war experiences and how those experiences have shaped him into the successful businessman he is today. Donovan has over a decade of experience leading teams in some of the most demanding environments imaginable both on and off the battlefield, and he shared that knowledge with residents and special guests of The Buckingham, including dozens of WWII, Korean, and Vietnam veterans that call The Buckingham home. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and a Bronze Star with Valor for his time in Iraq. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller Joker One: A Marine Platoon's Story of Courage, Leadership, and Brotherhood, which was recently named one of "The Best Military Books of the Decade" by Military Times.
"Donovan is a beautiful speaker who has lived an extraordinary life in his young years," said Cathy Lightfoot, sales and marketing director at The Buckingham. "He not only connects with his generation, but also to men and women many years his senior, like the veterans here at The Buckingham. He has a bright future ahead of him, and I know he made a lasting impression on those that attended his presentation."
Campbell has become a recognizable face among the military officers returning home and entering the business world. In his most recent book, The Leader's Code: Mission, Character, Service, and Getting the Job Done, he applies the principles learned in the military to civilian life. Donovan Campbell's past speaking appearances include Harvard Business School, the Air Force Academy, Wake Forest University, PepsiCo, and multiple appearances at the annual Barbara Bush Celebration of Reading as a featured author.
