The Long Beach Jewish Film Festival provides a window to the Jewish experience and allows us to explore contemporary and historical themes in many different global settings.

This year, we will be kicking off the Festival with screenings of five great Jewish-themed films. Deepen your understanding of the films with special events and guest speakers.

Wednesday, January 25, 2023
6:00pm: Long Beach Jewish Film Festival: Premiere Night
Join us for the Premiere Night of the 2023 Long Beach Jewish Film Festival!

Walk the red carpet at our Opening Night Reception and enjoy gourmet coffee, wine, beer, Kosher desserts, snacks, and live music by Jazz Angels!

7:00pm: Greener Pastures (Sheifa lahaim)

7:00pm: The Jewish Jail Lady And The Holy Thief

Directors: Barry Rosenthal & Victor Velle

This is a heartwarming documentary about the history of Beit T’shuva, a Jewish Recovery community in Los Angeles, California and its founders, Rabbi Mark Borovitz and Harriet Rossetto, and the birth of their spiritual mission to help Jewish addicts and criminals find recovery.

Come see why it has been named the “Best Documentary” at the Santa Barbara Jewish Film Festival!

Join us for the fourth film of the Long Beach Jewish Film Festival, Rose.

Rose, 78, has just lost her most beloved husband. When her grief gives way to a powerful impulse of life that makes her realize that she can still redefine herself as a woman, the whole balance of the family is upset.

4:00pm: Yerusalem - The Incredible Story Of Ethiopian Jewry
Celebrate the end of the Long Beach Jewish Film Festival at our Closing Reception at 3 PM featuring live music by Chad Bishop,

Following the reception is the premiere of the last film and winner of “Best in Festival”, Yerusalem, at 4 PM.

After the film, join us for a panel with Special Guest speaker, Dr. Blutinger, Chair of CSULB Jewish Studies Dept.

The story of a long, dramatic and tumultuous journey as the Jewish Ethiopian community, also known as “Beta-Israel,” finally find their way back to the heart of the Jewish people after centuries – Jerusalem.
