Students throughout the Long Beach City School District voiced their support for the reopening of Long Beach Medical Center by wearing red to school on May 20. The facility has been closed since October 2012 when Superstorm Sandy struck. Under the leadership of Long Beach High School junior Brandan Persaud, students in the high school's Theory of Knowledge class joined forces with Key Club members to publicize the event, which was intended to raise awareness about the acute need for a hospital on the Long Beach barrier island.
