Job Type: Internship

About:

Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) is an alliance of and for the region’s not-for-profit arts, cultural and arts education organizations. LIAA promotes awareness of and participation in Long Island’s world-class arts and cultural institutions. Formed in 2003, LIAA offers leadership and diverse support services to arts organizations, serves as an advocate for arts education in our schools and collaborates on strategies for economic development and community revitalization.

LIAA, through its programs and many partnerships, actively works to connect diverse art, artists and arts organizations to audiences in the streets, galleries, museums, theaters, and classrooms found throughout our communities.

Seeking:

LIAA is in search of a Communications and Social Media Intern who can assist with their social media outreach efforts and other related marketing tasks. This intern will be working in a cultural nonprofit setting and will gain valuable experience in sustaining a social media audience to support the Alliance, its membership base, and the arts sector on Long Island.

Primary Responsibilities/Duties:

Research, create, and post content to LIAA’s social media platforms and execute strategies to increase effectiveness in the digital arena.

Monitor social media accounts and keyword feeds for post/response opportunities.

Assist with setting up and tracking social media analytics.

Help write content and compile images for LIAA’s monthly e-newsletter.

Research, create and maintain online calendar listings of LIAA and member’s programs and events.

Assist in updating website content, ensuring consistency in messaging throughout different online platforms.

Update the press list and maintain the press clip files.

Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Degree or working toward a degree in communications, digital media, marketing, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field.

Enthusiastic about social media. Comfortable using Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok.

Excellent research and writing skills. Graphic design skills are a plus.

Keen attention to detail when proofreading, copyediting, and fact-checking.

Prior communications, marketing, and writing experience is a plus.

Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks within identified timeframes.

Ability to ask for help and accept supervision and evaluation of work.

Ability to work from home using your own computer and Internet access.

This internship will be primarily remote, with occasional onsite event support needed.

Duration of internship: March-July 2024

Time commitment: 10 hours a week

Stipend up to $1,500 for 15 weeks (150 hours) of work.
