April 7, 2015 - DIY Workshop: Green Cleaning

Cleaning products are often expensive and may contain an array of harmful chemicals. Stop by our table to for a tutorial on how to green your spring cleaning make your own laundry detergent, dryer sheets, multi-purpose cleaners, and upcycle sponges. How-to guides and limited supplies will be available.

April 11, 2015 - 2nd Annual Sustainability Day of Service

Students are invited to come out and volunteer with agencies that promote environmental awareness, sustainability, conservation, and recycling. Service assignments will include gardening, removal of invasive species, litter cleanup, river cleanup, and more!

Participants will receive transportation and a water bottle. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably in clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and wear close-toed shoes. Bringing work gloves is recommended but not required.

April 13, 2015 - Energy Efficiency Fair

More than forty exhibitors will be on hand to help UT and local community members learn ways to save energy at home and help Knoxville score big in the Georgetown University Energy Competition.

Stop by the fair to visit with weatherization contractors, Energy Star retailers, and watch how-to demonstrations. Sign up for a KUB energy audit to help get control of your power bill and make your home more comfortable.

April 14, 2015 - DIY Workshop: Growing Green

Whether you live in a residence hall, apartment, or house with a garden, growing your own food can be challenging. For those without a plot of land, there are all kinds of edibles you can grow inside. Learn how to vermicompost, grow sprouts in a jar, and start seeds. Stop by to pick up a how-to guide for information on indoor and limited-space gardening.

April 16, 2015 - Knoxville's EarthFest

EarthFest is a free, zero waste event with food, fun, and entertainment for the whole family, including pets.

April 16, 2015 - Trashed Outdoor Movie Screening

Trashed, an award winning documentary, takes viewers on a journey with Jeremy Irons through once beautiful landscapes and destinations that have been now converted to landfills.

Bike to the screening or use other green transportation for your chance to win a prize.

April 20, 2015 - Careers in Sustainability and the Environment

Come and explore opportunities to keep our world green through environmentally-impactful careers. Experts from UT's Career Services will explore how to develop pathways into environmentally-sustainable careers and organizations.

Discussions will cover career options within the field of environmentalism and sustainability, advice for gaining necessary skills and experiences, and how to job seek within the field. Students from all majors with an interest in the field are encouraged to attend.

April 21, 2015 - Facilities Fundamentals: Everyday Sustainability for Home and Work

Office of Sustainability Manager Preston Jacobsen will discuss how small but impactful steps can make a world of difference.

Jacobsen will provide tips to help attendees adopt more sustainable practices at home and work. He will cover current sustainable technologies, trends in the environmental world, and what the Office of Sustainability is doing to make UT a more sustainable place to live, learn, and work.

April 22, 2015 - Earth Day And Environmental Leadership Luncheon

This Earth Month gathering of sustainability champions from around campus and the greater Knoxville community will serve as an opportunity for networking, idea exchange, and celebration of another great year in sustainability.

Winners of the 201415 Environmental Leadership Awards will be announced during the luncheon. Each year, the Campus Committee on the Environment recognizes one student, staff, and faculty member that exemplify environmental stewardship and actively lead their peers toward a greener future. In addition, this year we will be recognizing one community member or local organization that is helping to make orange green.

The Office of Sustainability will also present UT's annual sustainability report and announce new projects and initiatives in the works for the 201516 Academic Year.

April 23, 2015 - Earth Day Celebration

UT's annual Earth Day Celebration will serve as a platform for the environmentally minded individuals of UT and the Knoxville area to celebrate the earth, share ideas for local action, showcase environmental and responsible leadership, and create a marketplace for local and purposeful commerce.

With several local food vendors, artisans and environmental organizations, this is an event you will not want to miss!

April 23, 2015 - Bike-in Movie: The Lorax

After the Earth Day Celebration, come and enjoy an outdoor screening of The Lorax. Based on the popular Dr. Seuss book, the story the chronicles the destruction of the environmental and the Lorax who advocates for the trees and works to protect them.

Bike to the screening or use other green transportation for your chance to win a prize from the Office of Sustainability.

April 24, 2015  - Arbor Day And Volapalooza'

Hold onto your orange overalls, this year's Volapalooza will feature Lupe Fiasco with the Cold War Kids and the Bad Suns, as well as other local openers! The power for the event will be offset via tree planting in honor of Arbor Day. The event will also be zero waste.

April 25, 2015 - Green Tailgate at the Orange And White Game

To kick off the first game of the year, we will be hosting a Green Tailgate where you can learn how to make your gamedays greener. The Green Team will be on hand to educate fans about UT's gameday zero waste efforts as well as lead campus and stadium clean-ups during and after the game.

Just like regular season football games, all fans entering tailgating areas will receive a blue recycling bag and a clear landfill bag. At the end of the day, bring your bags to any of the twelve zero waste locations spread throughout the designated tailgating areas for your chance to be Caught Green Handed.

From clean energy to clean waste streams, the Keep Neyland Clean campaign aims to reduce the environmental impact of gamedays at UT. The Orange and White Game will be the first Volunteer football game to be powered 100 percent by clean energy. Thanks to the Environmental Stewardship Fund, the entire 2015 season will be, too.

Learn more about zero waste gamedays or sign up to volunteer and join the Green Team! Volunteers help with educating fans, passing out bags, and keeping the campus and stadium clean. Volunteer sign ups will be posted on UT Recycling's website in early April.

You can also help power Neyland by donating to the Environmental Stewardship Fund.

April 27 and 28, 2015

Take a break from exams week and destress with an artful outlet. UT Recycling will be screen printing T-shirts, laundry bags, and posters. Students, staff, and faculty will receive a unique screen printed item after they sign a pledge promising to recycle and become conscious of their waste. By signing the pledge, each participant becomes a "Waste Warrior" a person who fights to reduce their environmental impact, and will receive the official insignia on an item.

Individuals are encouraged to bring their own T-shirts; however UT Recycling will have a limited number of T-shirts, laundry bags, and posters on hand.
