Celebrate the Year of the Dragon at the Nelson-Atkins! Explore treasures from the museum's Asian art collections and enjoy a variety of activities, dances, and music marking the Lunar New Year.

Plaza Level: Kirkwood Hall

10–11:30am - Lily Zhang Li Taylor Dance Academy Performance

11:30–11:45am, 12:45–1pm, 1:45–2pm - Yo-Yo demonstration by Students of The Chinese School of Greater Kansas City

11:45am–12:00 pm - Ms. Au’s Dance Group Folk Dance Performance

2:15–2:25pm - Fusion Dance by the Chinese School of Greater Kansas City

3:15–3:30pm - Jasmine Dance Group Interactive Performance

12:30–1:10pm - Dance performance by Sinag-Tala Performing Arts Troupe, Featuring welcome remarks before performance

2–2:40pm - Jasmine Chinese Dance Group Performance

3:30–4:10pm - Silk Road Dance Group Performance

10am–4pm - Calligraphy demonstrations on the half hour andbookmark giveaway led by The Taiwan-America Friendship Association , Rooms 4 and 5 , While supplies last

12:00 pm–3pm - Heart of America Japan-America Society Meet and Greet. Educator Resource Center

11:30am–12:30pm - Pipa Music by Christopher Stephens , Gallery between 205 and 206

1:30–3pm - Traditional Chinese Guzheng Music by William, Wen-Hua and Catherine You ? Gallery between 205 and 206

10am-4pm - Glamorous Women: Gender and Fashion in Chinese Art FREE exhibition , Gallery 222

10am-4pm - Zodiac Animal Hunt in the Asian Art Galleries with the help of Museum Guides , Gallery 224

Bloch Building

Please note that the ramp between the Bloch Building Plaza entrance and Bloch Lobby will be closed for an art installation during the festival. We ask that you use the stairs or elevator to move between levels in the Bloch Building. We apologize for the inconvenience.

11am–3pm - Purchase and enjoy á la carte Asian selections (while supplies last)

12:00pm–4pm - New Year Traditions Meet and Greet mini dragon art activity led by Korean Language Institute

Level 2: Lens 2 and Lens 2 Mezzanine

10am–4pm - Year of the Dragon art activity

Level 2: Spencer Art Reference Library

1–4 pm - Representatives from the Ethnic Enrichment Commission host drop-in story times and discuss an array of Lunar New Year traditions.

Level 2: Rockhill Room

10am–12:00 p.m - Play Chinese Wei Qi and view paper cut demonstrations with the Institute of Chinese Language and Culture

12:00 pm –3 pm - Painting demonstration by Valda Hsu.

The festival is free, but registration is required. Although you may register upon admission, we strongly recommend registering in advance.
