It is with heavy hearts that we've said goodbye to one of our Seagrove potters this week. David Garner opened Turn and Burn Pottery in Seagrove in 1985. With numerous awards and blue ribbons, David was voted master craftsman of the year at the NC State Fair- Village of Yesteryear. David was an active member of the Seagrove Area Potter’s Association and was known for his ability to appraise older pieces of NC hand-crafted, traditional, and utilitarian pottery.

He served as the mayor of Seagrove for three terms before stepping down, assuming a seat on the town council, and focusing on his passion for ministerial and pastoral work. David was an inspiration to many aspiring potters and shared his love of pottery with countless people during his 45 years at the potter’s wheel. He will be greatly missed.

His wife Deborah and son Jeff McDowell will continue the work at Turn and Burn Pottery in downtown Seagrove.

Beautiful article from WFMY News about David and his legacy.
