McHenry County Gardenfest 2016

Seasoned gardeners and novices alike will enjoy McHenry County Gardenfest, a day-long series of garden-related seminars and workshops, sponsored by McHenry County College and the University of Illinois Extension McHenry County Master Gardeners.

The keynote speaker is nationally renowned author Kerry Ann Mendez, who wrote "The Right-Size Flower Garden," "The Ultimate Flower Gardener's Top Ten Lists" and "Top Ten Lists for Beautiful Shade Gardens." Mendez specializes in low-maintenance garden and landscape designs.

Afterward, more than 30 breakout sessions will be offered in four segments. Topics will include permaculture basics, creating terrariums, cooking with herbs, dragonflies, vegetable gardening, new plants for 2016, garden design and more. Lunch, included in the fee, will be served in the cafeteria. Attendees are also eligible for door prizes.

Dozens of exhibitors will be on-site selling books and garden-related products and demonstrating their crafts.

Gardenfest will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at McHenry County College, 8900 U.S. Route 14, in Crystal Lake, Ill. Registration forms are available at http://mchenry.edu/gardenfest. Online registration begins Feb. 15 and ends March 29. Early registration is encouraged since space is limited. The cost is $45 (includes lunch). Tickets can be purchased the day of the event at the door for an additional $5 fee (first come, first served).
