Government and Politics

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens), New York’s senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement after she was sworn into her next term in the House of Representatives as the new session of Congress began early yesterday morning.

“I am excited and honored to begin my next term in Congress and to continue representing the wonderful people of Queens. During the last Congress, I proudly championed numerous pieces of legislation, many of which were signed into law, and I look forward to continuing to tackle issues that are critical to our borough and doing so in a bipartisan manner.

Major legislation like the American Rescue Plan, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Honoring our PACT Act, and the Emergency Connectivity Fund that I helped create have helped provide what New Yorkers and Americans across the nation need, especially as we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

I am looking forward to working alongside my dear friend, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of Brooklyn, as he begins his new role as Democratic Leader. I am also extremely proud to be part of a historically diverse and inclusive new session of Congress, one that also includes a record number of women, and as we move forward, I will continue working for a better future, ending injustices and inequalities, and providing a fighting chance for all who live in our borough and country.

I’m excited to get to work on behalf of my constituents and the American people.”

Meng represents New York’s Sixth Congressional District encompassing west, central, and northeast Queens.
