Chamber News & Updates

"In the early eighteen-seventies, Milford had no banking institutions of any kind. To deposit their savings, residents made use of banks in nearby cities. Recognizing the need for a bank in Milford, a group of public-spirited citizens applied to the State for a charter. An act of incorporation was passed during the 1872 session of the General Assembly and was approved by the Governor on June 26th of that year.

The first meeting of the incorporators was held in August 1872. Because of delays so frequently attendant upon the starting of a new enterprise in a small community, no active measures towards opening for business were taken until 1875. On January 18, 1875, at a meeting of the incorporators held in the Town Hall, it was decided to commence business. The bank opened shortly thereafter"

Milford Bank has multiple locations around the region.

Get In Touch Foundation call for volunteers

The Get In Touch Foundation, a breast health education nonprofit based in Milford, is reaching out to interested students and others to offer a volunteer opportunity to help us table at ShopRite stores on the following dates: 8/27, 9/2, 9/3, 9/4, and 9/9. ShopRite has generously invited us to provide our resources at six locations including the Milford, Orange, Stratford, Hamden, Clinton and East Haven ShopRites.

GIT provides breast health education resources free of charge to schools all over the globe which teach on the importance of breast self-examination; we also have a free Daisy Wheel app that can be downloaded, adding to our mission of making breast health education free and accessible for all. Volunteers would check in with customer service at the designated ShopRite store. They will have everything setup, we just need people to help us spread our mission and collect donations at the entrance.

This is a great opportunity for high schoolers to get their community service hours taken care of right at the start of the school year and to satisfy requirements for Key Club, National Honor Society and other clubs.
