Council Eyes Outdoor Biz Use Next Steps as Commission Backs, Evaluation of a Permanent Program – Ultimate Decision Goes to Council

First Responders, MV Library Dial Up 5-Part Preparedness Series – Starts  Sept. 1
As part of National Preparedness Month, a collaboration among a number of organizations and the Mill Valley Public Library are set to launch a five-part Emergency Preparedness Series, starting this Thursday, Sept. 1 with a focus on Fire Readiness and Defensible Space. FULL STORY.

Seager Gray Gallery Presents Renee Bott’s ‘Inventing Nature’ – Thru Sept. 29
Seager/Gray Gallery is unveiling this week “Renée Bott: Inventing Nature,” a painting exhibition about nature and naturalists. The show runs from August 31 – September 29, with an artist reception Sept. 11.

Margot Hartford Shows Her Photos of Victorians at MV Chamber Thru Sept. 30 – First Tuesday Artwalk is Sept. 6
Renowned photographer Margot Hartford is bringing her latest project – a focus on beautiful Victorian homes in San Francisco and elsewhere – to the Chamber’s office at 85 Throckmorton throughout September. FULL STORY.

CA State Senate Backs Bill to Set Wages, Conditions for the Fast-Food Industry in Mill Valley– Heads to Newsom
If signed, the bill would set up a 10-member council, including representatives for workers and employers. It could set industrywide minimum wages in California at up to $22 an hour next year, far exceeding the statewide minimum wage of $15.50, the Times reports. FULL STORY.

Mt. Tam Church Heads Into the Fall With Gusto, Unveils a Trio of Events and Programs
The church hosts a Youth Bowling Night for students in 6th to 12th grade on Friday, Sept. 16th, 7-9pm, to celebrate the start of another year at Presidio Bowl. Mt. Tam’s youth program focuses on faith, fun and service. FULL STORY.

Come Sept. 10-11 (11am-7pm), the Depot Plaza’s going to be rockin.’ The Mill Valley Arts Commission is bringing back the series with two full days of live music featuring an array of acclaimed local bands, as well as a few exciting special guests. For both events, City officials are closing the block of Miller Ave. between Throckmorton & Sunnyside avenues to allow for outdoor dining and extra space for health and safety. Depot Plaza. More than 130 artists showcased their work at MVFAF in 2021 and turnout was excellent, despite a consistent drizzle, a clear indication that one of Mill Valley’s landmarks remains as popular and well-regarded as ever. With nearly 140 artists scattered and thousands of patrons scattered throughout the massive, gorgeous redwood grove at Old Mill Park, Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival, set for Sept. 17-18, is a massive undertaking. Great Events – Thru Nov. 1

Marin City is set to have an extended, much-deserved opportunity to celebrate its rich history and deep cultural impact with a series of events that kick off Aug. 20 and run through early November. The over-arching series – dubbed Marin City 80 – celebrates eight generations of Black people from Marin City. FULL STORY.
