Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Celebrate 2022 Governor’s Fishing Opener

Last weekend, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan celebrated the official start of the fishing season and the unofficial start to summer at the Governor’s Fishing Opener on Lake Winnibigoshish, where Governor Walz hooked a 21-inch walleye. The weekend included Radio Row in the Chippewa National Forest, visits to highlight the local outdoor and hospitality industries, a community celebration, a Launch Ceremony, and a walleye shore lunch.

Governor Walz on Minnesota’s Lowest Unemployment Rate in Recorded State History

This week, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development announced that in April 2022, Minnesota hit its lowest unemployment rate in recorded state history. 

“Minnesota workers made history today. A lot has changed in our state since 1976, but the work ethic of Minnesotans and our resilience through the most challenging of times has not,” said Governor Walz. “Thanks to our workers and our smart, job-creating policies, Minnesota’s economy is growing like never before. In the remaining days of the legislative session, we have an opportunity to power Minnesota’s economic growth even further by lowering costs for families, investing in our workers, and making smart, future-looking decisions to move Minnesota forward.”

Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan hosted a roundtable with Minnesotans impacted by the nationwide infant formula shortage, where they highlighted how the state is working alongside federal partners and retailers to get more formula to Minnesota.

Governor Walz, Legislative Leaders Announce Bipartisan Plan to Make Historic Investments in Education, Billions in Tax Cuts

Governor Walz and Letuienant Governor Flanagan joined Legislative leaders to announce a bipartisan budget agreement that will improve lives by making a $4 billion investment in education, public safety, and health care while also providing tax cuts and putting money in Minnesotans’ pockets. 

Governor Walz Surveys Storm Damage, Sends National Guard to Support Flood Response in Northeastern Minnesota

On Thursday, Governor Walz visited Benson to survey storm damage and meet with the local officials that have been managing the response. Last weekend, Governor Walz also visited farmers in northwest Minnesota to survey extensive flooding and storm damage. Having seen seen firsthand the impact historic flooding is having on farmers, businesses, and communities in Minnesota, the Governor sent National Guard troops to support flood operations in northern Minnesota to ensure communities receive the support they need as water rises in the region.

Governor Walz Signs Law to Protect Safety of Minnesota Children in Foster Care

Governor Walz signed a bill creating a new office to help protect the safety and wellbeing of Minnesota kids in foster care.

"By building more accountability and transparency into our foster system through this office, we can work to ensure better outcomes for every child," said Governor Walz.

Governor Walz Honors Fallen Peace Officers on Peace Officer Memorial Day

On Peace Officer Memorial Day, Governor Walz gathered with community members to pay tribute to Minnesota peace officers who have died in the line of duty.

"My prayers are with the families of the Peace Officers who gave their lives in service to their communities. Their courage and sacrifice will not be forgotten," said Governor Walz.
